COJOJ secures Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics water supply

Water services for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games are set to receive coordinated planning and operational support after the organising committee reached an agreement with SONES and SEN’EAU. The arrangement is intended to identify demand early, prepare the required network and respond quickly to any disruption before and during the event.

The convention was signed in Dakar on Wednesday for the Games scheduled from 31 October to 13 November 2026. It assigns SEN’EAU responsibility for maintaining proper water distribution throughout the competition, while SONES will support the infrastructure needed across the areas linked to the event.

SONES has already completed additional connection work costing 25 million CFA francs because of the Games. The company is focusing on the Dakar-Thiès-Petite Côte growth corridor, where the sporting venues and hotels for participants are located. COJOJ general coordinator Ibrahima Wade said the agreement would help the partners anticipate requirements, coordinate their work and preserve continuity of service.

The three organisations have worked together for the past two years, and the convention formalises that cooperation for Dakar 2026. The Games will make Senegal the first African country to host the Youth Olympics, adding a wider infrastructure responsibility to its role as event organiser.
