CS Bonon win Dominique Ouattara youth football trophy

CS Bonon have been crowned champions of the Dominique Ouattara football tournament, securing a title that brought pride to the commune of Bonon and ended a month of youth competition in the Marahoué region. The tournament was organised around football, social cohesion and healthy activities for young people during the school holidays.

Bonon defeated Royal FC of Bouaflé 2-0 in the final at Bouaflé municipal stadium on Saturday, September 12. The competition began on August 15 and featured 16 teams of players aged between seven and 15. More than 22 teams had initially registered, but the field was reduced because of scheduling constraints.

The result also gives the tournament a development role beyond the final. The best performers are due to be identified, with their names to be forwarded to specialised football structures and training centres. That process was included in the competition’s objectives and could provide a pathway for promising young players from the area.

The final was attended by regional and local officials, including Marahoué prefect Gonbagui Gueu Georges, Bouaflé mayor Yao Etienne, Bouaflé deputy and tournament coordinator Koné Adama, and Bonon deputy mayor Koné Yacouba. Organisers described the event as a way to keep young people engaged in sport while strengthening ties among communities across the region.
