Davide Piganzoli wins Tour d’Émilie at home

Davide Piganzoli wins the Tour d’Émilie at home, becoming the first Italian champion since 2018.

Davide Piganzoli has strengthened his position among the leading riders for the season’s final races by winning the Tour d’Émilie in front of his home crowd. The Visma-Lease a Bike rider followed his Tour de Luxembourg general-classification success two weeks ago with another major victory, one week before the Tour of Lombardy.

Piganzoli covered the 197.9-kilometre course from Ferrara to Bologna in 4 hours, 33 minutes and 19 seconds. Tom Pidcock finished three seconds behind, with Oscar Onley taking third on the same time. Piganzoli is the first Italian to win the Bologna finish since Alessandro De Marchi in 2018. Pidcock matched his runner-up results from 2024 and 2025, while world champion Brandon McNulty placed 10th, 45 seconds back.

The decisive move came with five kilometres remaining, when Piganzoli attacked and opened a gap that the chasing group could not close. Matteo Jorgenson covered the attempts behind him, helping Visma-Lease a Bike protect its leader. Pidcock made a final effort on the last ascent of San Luca, but could not reach the Italian. Piganzoli’s recent form now gives him a clear result to build on before Lombardy, the final Monument of the season.
