Jürgen Klopp faces Germany Nations League crisis
Germany sit outside the Nations League quarter-final places after a draw with Greece left Klopp under pressure.
Germany are currently outside the Nations League quarter-final positions, increasing the pressure on Jürgen Klopp after four matches in charge. The Mannschaft sit third in their group on five points, three behind both the Netherlands and Greece, who share the lead.
Germany drew 0-0 with Greece in Thessaloniki after previously losing 1-0 to the same opponent and beating Serbia 2-0. Klopp’s opening record now stands at one win, two draws and one defeat. The result also means Germany remain behind Greece in the head-to-head standings, having already lost the first meeting in Augsburg.
The visitors created more in the opening half, recording 13 shots before the interval compared with Greece’s one. Jonathan Burkardt had a goal ruled out by VAR because of a handball involving Tom Bischof earlier in the move. Derry Scherhant, making his second international appearance, was among Germany’s most effective attackers but also missed narrowly before being substituted in the 82nd minute.
Klopp said his team still needed to develop the combinations required to break down a deep defence, while pointing to the demands of playing again three days later. Germany have two group matches left, away to Serbia and at home to the Netherlands, and must collect points to keep their quarter-final hopes alive.
