Mathis Amougou joins Toulouse on loan

The 20-year-old France-Cameroon midfielder moves from Strasbourg to Toulouse on loan for added playing time.

Mathis Amougou has moved to Toulouse on loan from Strasbourg, a switch that should give the France-Cameroon midfielder a clearer route to regular football. The 20-year-old central midfielder had not featured in Strasbourg’s opening two Ligue 1 matches, remaining on the bench against Marseille and Lens.

The move also gives Toulouse another midfield option as the club looks to recover from a start consisting of one defeat and one draw. Toulouse were due to host Lille in the third round of Ligue 1, with Amougou potentially in line for his first appearance for the club. His arrival provides an opportunity to rebuild his momentum after a limited start to the campaign.

Amougou joined Strasbourg in summer 2025 after moving from Chelsea, having previously developed at Saint-Etienne. He made 19 appearances for the Alsace club and was part of its run in the Conference League. Strasbourg have said he will represent Toulouse during the 2026-27 season, while his contract with the Racing side runs until 2030.

The loan gives Amougou a new setting in which to develop and compete for minutes. At Strasbourg, he remained outside the starting plans for the opening fixtures; at Toulouse, his presence adds depth to a team seeking an early improvement in its league results.
