Matthew Brennan wins second sprint at Vuelta 2026

Matthew Brennan has won both sprint finishes held so far at the 2026 Vuelta, giving Visma-Lease a Bike a second stage victory in the opening five days. The British rider’s latest success came in Roquetes Terres de l’Ebre, where he again proved the fastest rider at the finish.

Brennan completed stage five in 3hr 47min 02sec. His teammates delivered him into position for the final sprint before he moved clear of Jordi Meeus and Vincenzo Albanese. The Belgian finished second and the Italian third, both receiving the same time as the winner. Alessandro Romele took fourth, while France’s Axel Laurance completed the top five.

The stage result had no effect on the overall standings. Tadej Pogačar remains in the red jersey after reaching the finish safely, with an accumulated time of 11hr 26min 01sec. Primož Roglič is second, 3min 21sec behind, followed by Enric Mas at 3min 32sec. Sepp Kuss is fourth at 3min 44sec, and Oscar Onley occupies fifth, 3min 45sec off the lead.

Pogačar’s uneventful day followed his major showing in Andorra, where he had extended his advantage in the general classification. With the leading riders maintaining their positions, the focus shifted to the sprint and Brennan’s repeat success. His two wins have come in the race’s two sprint arrivals, while the red jersey remains with Pogačar.
