Navétanes suspended in Ngandiouf after post-match unrest

Navétanes activities in Ngandiouf have been halted indefinitely after violence at the municipal stadium raised concerns over further disorder. The suspension affects the popular national championship in the locality of Tivaouane department and will remain in place until a new decision is taken.

The order was issued on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, by Babacar Kébé, the sub-prefect of Niakhène. It followed ASC Mbakhisse’s 2-1 victory over ASC Ndop Gadiaga. After the match, a member of the local tournament organising committee was attacked while collecting balls on the pitch. He was first taken to the Ngandiouf health post and later transferred to the health centre in Mékhé.

News of the assault prompted young people from the victim’s community to respond, leading to confrontations between the two groups. Around 10 people were injured, while the stadium also suffered substantial damage. Chairs were destroyed and a vehicle was damaged during the unrest.

Kébé cited the risk of a breach of public order in suspending the competition. The decision prevents the immediate continuation of Navétanes matches in Ngandiouf and follows calls from local residents who welcomed the move as a way to limit renewed tensions.
