Portugal strengthen lead as Netherlands revive in Nations League
Portugal lead Group A4 by six points after a fourth straight win, while the Netherlands move top in Group A2.
Portugal have opened a clear gap at the top of Nations League Group A4, while the Netherlands have repaired their position in Group A2. Germany also remain level with Greece after their goalless meeting, leaving both teams on eight points.
Portugal secured a fourth consecutive victory by beating Norway 2-1. Norway took the lead when Ajer scored in the 36th minute, but João Cancelo restored parity just two minutes later. Gonçalo Ramos then completed Portugal’s comeback with the decisive goal in the 79th minute. The result lifts Portugal to 12 points, six ahead of Denmark in second place.
The Netherlands moved to the summit of Group A2 by overcoming Serbia 2-1. Koopmeiners gave the Dutch side the advantage in the 31st minute, and Zirkzee doubled it in the 79th. With eight points, the Netherlands sit level with Greece, who were unable to find a goal against Germany in their 0-0 draw.
Ireland and Israel shared the points in a 1-1 draw in Group B2. The results leave Portugal with the strongest position among the leading sides covered, as their four-match winning sequence has created substantial separation from Denmark. In Group A2, the Netherlands’ victory put them alongside Greece at the top rather than clear of the field.
