Senegal-Morocco CAN 2025 title case gets CAS hearing
CAS will hear Senegal’s appeal against the CAF ruling that changed the official winner of the CAN 2025 final.
The official outcome of the CAN 2025 final remains open to challenge after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) scheduled a hearing in the Senegal-Morocco dispute for 8 October. The case will determine whether the title remains with Morocco following the Confederation of African Football’s ruling or returns to Senegal.
Senegal won the final 1-0 on the pitch in Rabat, but CAF later declared the team defeated by forfeit in March. The Senegalese federation subsequently referred the matter to CAS. The decision followed a late incident in which a penalty was awarded to Morocco and missed, before several Senegal players left the field for roughly 15 minutes.
The hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. at CAS headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. The panel will be led by French professor Gérald Simon, alongside Italian professor Luigi Fumagalli and German professor and doctor Ulrich Haas.
Both sides will present their positions before CAS rules on the final status of the tournament. Until that decision, the match result and CAF’s official ruling point to different outcomes for the same final.
