WEC partnership extended as FIA and ACO commit through 2037

The World Endurance Championship has secured long-term continuity after the FIA and Automobile Club de l’Ouest agreed to maintain their partnership until 2037. The deal protects the framework of the series and reinforces its position during a period of expansion for endurance racing.

The two organisations have worked together on the WEC since its creation in 2012. Their agreement had faced uncertainty after speculation that the relationship could end in 2027, but the new ten-year extension removes that possibility. The FIA will oversee the championship’s regulatory processes, subject to final approval from the World Motor Sport Council.

Responsibility for approving Hypercar prototypes will be shared by the FIA and ACO. The federation will also have a more visible presence at events, including in the parc fermé, on the podium, around the safety cars and during broadcasts. The agreement follows the growth of the Hypercar class, which was introduced in 2021.

That momentum is set to continue with Ford and McLaren scheduled to enter the championship in 2027. Chinese manufacturer Geely is also considering taking over the programme previously abandoned by Alpine. The extended partnership gives the WEC and its governing bodies a common structure through the next decade.
