Alberto Bruttomesso faces provisional doping suspension

Alberto Bruttomesso has been provisionally suspended in Italy, with Bahrain Victorious removing him from team activities.

Alberto Bruttomesso’s immediate racing future has been put on hold after Italy’s national anti-doping tribunal imposed a provisional suspension on the Bahrain Victorious sprinter. The team has also barred him from all of its activities while the case moves through the anti-doping process.

The procedure was initiated at the request of Italy’s national anti-doping prosecutor and concerns Articles 2.1 and 2.2 of the World Anti-Doping Code. Those provisions cover the presence of a banned substance in a biological sample and the use or attempted use of a prohibited substance or method. The authorities have not disclosed the substance involved or the date of the alleged violation.

Bruttomesso became a professional rider in 2024 and is under contract with Bahrain Victorious until 2027. He won a stage of the Giro Next Gen in 2022 and later took third place on a stage of the Tour of Guangxi. Bahrain Victorious has pledged to cooperate with the relevant anti-doping authorities and to support the rider during the proceedings, while awaiting a final decision and completion of the applicable testing and review process.
