Raphinha leaves Brazil camp with Barcelona injury concern

Barcelona face uncertainty over Raphinha’s availability after Brazil removed the winger from its camp as a precaution. The decision followed tests that identified mild swelling in a thigh muscle, although no more serious injury was indicated. Raphinha will therefore miss Brazil’s friendly against India on Saturday, and the coaching staff have not called up a replacement.

The 29-year-old was forced off during the first half of Brazil’s 4-2 friendly win over Australia on Tuesday. He had also played the full match in the teams’ 1-1 draw the previous Friday, setting up Ryan’s late equaliser. The latest problem adds to Barcelona’s concerns over a player who dealt with repeated physical issues last season and missed four matches in April because of a right hamstring injury.

Raphinha made only 33 appearances for Barcelona last season, but his form this campaign has made him a key attacking figure. He has scored 14 goals and supplied three assists in eight matches. Barcelona are due to return to competition on October 10, when they host Getafe in La Liga, leaving the club awaiting clarity on whether the thigh problem will affect his availability.
