Apejes de Mfou rout Canon in pre-season match

Apejes de Mfou beat Canon de Yaoundé 4-1, leaving the capital club with work to do two weeks before the season.

Canon de Yaoundé’s preparations have suffered a major setback with the new season only two weeks away. The defeat raises pressure on a young squad that the club hopes can compete for at least one trophy this campaign, while Apejes de Mfou have strengthened their early preparations with a convincing result against the capital side.

Apejes won 4-1 at the Omnisports annex stadium on Saturday. Sofiane, the club’s new midfielder and son of a former Cameroon international, scored once, while Marco Bediebe added two goals. Franky Manga completed Apejes’ tally. Mendo Akono scored Canon’s only goal.

The result came after Canon had beaten Sable de Batié in their previous friendly and were seeking another positive performance under coach Ngaba Mardochée’s plans. Instead, the team was heavily beaten by Apejes, who will compete in the coming season as a promoted club.

Canon’s youth-focused approach now faces an important test before the league begins. The club still has time to adjust its squad and plans, but the loss has exposed concerns after a period in which confidence had been building around the team.
