AS Nancy players jailed in group-rape investigation
Two AS Nancy players are in pre-trial detention after being placed under formal investigation in a group-rape case.
AS Nancy are facing the loss of two professional players and a major disruption to their squad after both men were placed in pre-trial detention in a group-rape investigation. Their identities have not been made public, and the club has not issued an official comment on the criminal proceedings.
The players were arrested on Sept. 30 and held for questioning by police in Meurthe-et-Moselle. After 48 hours in custody, they appeared before an investigating judge at Nancy judicial court on Oct. 2. They were formally placed under investigation for “viol en réunion” and detained provisionally following requests from the public prosecutor’s office. The prosecutor, François Capin-Dulhoste, has given no details about the alleged events while the investigation remains confidential.
The case comes during the international break, which has temporarily concealed the absences from Nancy’s professional squad. The club is sixth in Ligue 2 under coach Oswald Tanchot, who took charge in May 2026 after Pablo Correa. The next league match is expected to make the missing players more visible on the team sheet.
The proceedings also bring back difficult memories for Nancy. Former goalkeeper Baptiste Valette was investigated over similar allegations linked to an incident outside a nightclub in 2019. He was acquitted at first instance in December 2025, but faces a retrial after an appeal by the public prosecutor’s office.
