EA FC 27 revives Electronic Arts' football simulation
EA FC 27 gives Electronic Arts’ football series a stronger identity through smarter play and a broader game world.
EA FC 27 has restored a stronger identity to Electronic Arts’ football series, several days after its release. The new edition places more responsibility on the player and broadens the experience beyond traditional matches, addressing criticisms that the licence had become repetitive.
On the pitch, defending is no longer handled automatically, making timing and risk assessment central to stopping attackers. Set pieces demand more planning, while improved off-ball movement creates additional tactical options, including on corners. Career mode also moves more smoothly, with a clearer transfer interface, custom rivalries and unexpected events such as injuries adding variation across a season.
The biggest addition is The Grounds, an open-world space built around street football and futsal. It offers a more convincing alternative to the repetitive Volta mode, allowing players to customise an avatar, develop skills through 13 archetypes and encounter figures such as Kylian Mbappé. Some locations draw directly on Paris. Although the menus remain largely familiar from the previous edition, the wider design makes EA FC 27 feel more immersive, social and spontaneous. Its range of play styles gives the series a broader appeal while preserving the focus on football simulation.
