Aubameyang scores in first two Liga games for Deportivo

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored in each of his first two Liga matches since joining promoted Deportivo La Coruña.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has made an immediate impact on Deportivo La Coruña’s return to Spain’s top flight, scoring in each of his first two Liga appearances. The Gabon international’s start gives the promoted side a proven attacking threat as it adjusts to the level of the elite division.

Aubameyang opened the scoring in Monday’s 1-1 draw with Málaga, finishing in the 21st minute after running onto a pass inside the area, rounding the goalkeeper and finding an empty net. The goal followed another opener at the same minute against Elche in the opening round of the championship.

The 37-year-old has started both matches and completed each game, making his early contribution more significant than the two goals alone. Deportivo’s results in those opening fixtures have included the draw with Málaga, while Aubameyang’s finishing has provided the clearest sign of his form.

He joined La Coruña in mid-July after leaving Marseille, where he had returned for the 2025-26 season following an earlier spell. Across his first Marseille stint, he scored 30 goals in 51 matches, then ended last season with 14 goals and 10 assists in all competitions. His new contract with Deportivo runs for two seasons.
