Auxerre finally claim first Ligue 1 win in 2026
Auxerre have ended their losing start with a 1-0 victory over Nice, settled by Archer in the second half.
Auxerre have finally secured their first Ligue 1 victory of 2026, beating Nice 1-0 at the Abbé-Deschamps. The result gives Will Still’s side its first success after three defeats to begin the season and provides an important lift before the next league fixture.
The decisive goal arrived in the 74th minute. C. Archer took advantage of a pass from Makosso, moved beyond the Nice defence and went around goalkeeper Diouf before sending his right-foot finish into the empty net. Nice had controlled long periods of the match and created several opportunities, but poor finishing prevented the visitors from taking the lead.
Auxerre’s goalkeeper Diop played a significant part in preserving the advantage. He dealt with efforts from the Nice attack, while Makosso also intervened to block a dangerous attempt. The home side managed the closing stages as Nice continued to press without finding an equaliser. The result leaves Nice with two points in the supplied league data and at the bottom of the table.
Auxerre are recorded in 17th place, with 0 points from one match and a 2-5 goal record in the 2026 Ligue 1 data. Their recent form, however, shows four wins in five listed matches: victories over St Maur Lusitanos, Lille, Nice and Angers, alongside a 1-2 defeat by Orléans. Auxerre’s next league match is at home to Stade Brestois 29 on September 20.
