Basketball Africa League opens renovated court at UGB

A renovated basketball court at Senegal’s Gaston Berger University is now available to students and local youth in Saint-Louis.

Students and young players in Saint-Louis now have access to a refurbished basketball court at Gaston Berger University, expanding the facilities available for sport and community activity. The project is intended to improve access to quality infrastructure while creating further opportunities for local youth.

The Basketball Africa League and Senegal’s PETROSEN inaugurated the court at the university on Wednesday. BAL president Amadou Gallo Fall said the initiative forms part of a wider programme that will reach communities across the sub-region. He presented sport as a way to bring young people together and help develop practical life skills beyond competition.

PETROSEN Trading & Services director general Mahamadou Diop described sport as a means of promoting social inclusion and personal development. He said the renovated facility reflected a shared commitment to youth, education and sport. Assane Diakhaté, head of the university’s Education, Training and Sport Sciences unit, welcomed the partnership behind the project and the completed work.

Local coaches and under-16 players took part in the inauguration. The programme is designed to strengthen community ties around the university and make better sporting facilities available to the wider youth population in Saint-Louis.
