Amanda Anisimova ends 2026 season with wrist injury

Amanda Anisimova has ended her 2026 season early to address a painful left-wrist injury. The decision leaves the American facing a major ranking setback before her planned return in 2027.

Anisimova, 25, announced the decision on Monday. She is currently ranked 11th in the world, but is expected to fall to around 50th once points from last year’s results expire. Those include the 1,000 points earned for winning the Beijing WTA 1000 and 1,195 from reaching the semi-finals at the season-ending Masters.

The move closes a year that brought fewer significant results than her breakthrough 2025 campaign. She reached the Australian Open quarter-finals, losing to Jessica Pegula, but exited in the third round at the other three Grand Slam tournaments. Her best other performances came with a semi-final appearance in Dubai and a quarter-final run in Cincinnati.

Anisimova had finished 2025 as the world number four after also winning the Doha WTA 1000 and reaching the Wimbledon and US Open finals. Her absence adds to the list of withdrawals from this week’s Beijing tournament, which also includes Pegula and Marta Kostyuk. Anisimova will now focus on recovering before attempting to rebuild her ranking next season.
