Bil Nsongo scores first Cameroon goal in Ivory Coast win

Bil Nsongo marked his first Cameroon start with the winning goal against Ivory Coast on 3 October 2026.

Bil Nsongo has made a strong early case for a regular role with Cameroon after deciding the meeting with Ivory Coast on his first start. The 22-year-old forward scored the only goal at Ebimpé on 3 October 2026, giving the Lions Indomptables a 1-0 victory.

Nsongo struck in the 46th minute after receiving service and placing the ball through goalkeeper Alban Lafont’s legs. The goal was his first for the national team and came after he had caused repeated problems for the Ivorian defence with his physical and energetic attacking play.

The performance continued an encouraging international beginning. Nsongo debuted on 24 September against Comoros in Garoua and supplied an assist after coming on. He also played against Congo before starting against Ivory Coast. Across his first three Cameroon appearances, he has recorded one goal and one assist.

His rise follows a productive period at club level. Nsongo previously played for Lausanne d’Anguissa and helped Deportivo La Coruna earn promotion to Liga. He was called into the Cameroon squad after a promising start to the season, having accumulated 405 minutes across seven league matches. In the absence of Christian Kofane, coach David Pagou turned to him from the start, and the decision produced Cameroon’s decisive moment.
