CAF Women’s Champions League UFOA-A: Aigles reach semi-finals
Aïssatou Fall’s second-half goal gave Senegal’s Aigles de la Médina a 1-0 win over Liberia’s Determine Girls and a place in the UFOA-A semi-finals.
The Aigles de la Médina are through to the semi-finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament for the UFOA-A zone after beating Liberia’s Determine Girls 1-0 on Monday, 31 August. Aïssatou Fall scored the only goal of the match, giving the Senegalese champions the victory they needed after losing their opening fixture.
The result came in the second matchday of Group A and immediately changed the Aigles’ position in the competition. They had started the tournament with a 1-0 defeat against Mali’s USFAS Bamako, leaving them needing a positive response against the Liberian representatives. Fall’s goal supplied that response and confirmed the club’s place in the last four.
The first half against Determine Girls ended without a goal. The teams went into the interval level at 0-0 after a closely contested opening period. Neither side was able to break the deadlock before the break, leaving the qualification outcome to be decided in the second half.
The decisive moment came after the interval, when Aïssatou Fall found the goal that separated the teams. The attacker’s strike remained the only score of the contest and gave the Médinoises a narrow but decisive win. It was also the first victory reported for the Senegalese club in this qualifying campaign.
The qualification has significance beyond reaching the semi-finals. The UFOA-A tournament offers one place in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League. The Aigles are now two matches away from their stated objective of winning the zonal competition and securing that continental berth.
Six teams are taking part in the regional qualification tournament, divided into two groups of three. Group A contains the Aigles de la Médina, USFAS Bamako and Determine Girls. Group B brings together Gambia’s Berewuleng FC, Guinea’s AS Bolonta and Sierra Leone’s Mogbwemo Queens.
The format sends the two leading teams from each group into the semi-finals. The winner of Group A will face the runner-up from Group B, while the winner of Group B will meet the second-placed team from Group A. The Aigles’ qualification therefore keeps open two possible semi-final routes, depending on how the remaining group results shape the order.
The tournament continues through 6 September. For the Aigles de la Médina, the 1-0 win over Determine Girls has restored their campaign after the setback against USFAS and extended their run towards the only qualification place available from the UFOA-A zone for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
