Amaury Leveaux faces serious family violence allegations
Former Olympic swimmer Amaury Leveaux was detained in Paris over allegations involving his wife and six-month-old baby.
Amaury Leveaux is facing a new criminal investigation in Paris over alleged domestic violence involving his wife and their six-month-old child. The former French swimmer was detained on Tuesday at a police station in the capital’s eighth arrondissement and was placed in custody before being brought before the Paris prosecutor’s office on Thursday.
The allegations include threatening his wife with a knife and violently shaking the baby. The child was taken to hospital, where doctors reportedly suspected non-accidental head trauma consistent with shaken baby syndrome. No response had been provided by Leveaux’s lawyer or the Paris prosecutor’s office on the matter.
Leveaux, 40, won Olympic gold in the 4x100-metre freestyle relay at London 2012 and became a world champion the following year. He also earned European silver in the 100m butterfly in 2006 and the 200m freestyle in 2008, as well as four short-course European titles in 2008.
The swimmer was previously investigated after a 2016 dispute with a former partner. He was acquitted in 2017 after the court accepted that violence had been mutual. In 2025, a couple also filed a fraud complaint linked to the failure of a sports sponsorship platform he launched in 2021 using cryptocurrency. Leveaux has been absent from social media since carrying the Olympic flame in June 2024.
