Cristiano Ronaldo faces Portuguese disciplinary action
Cristiano Ronaldo could face a suspension of up to six months after leaving Portugal’s camp during a dispute with Jorge Jesus.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s early departure from Portugal’s training camp has opened the way to disciplinary proceedings that could disrupt his international career. The Al-Nassr forward reportedly left after a disagreement with coach Jorge Jesus and travelled to Madrid by private jet, despite mediation attempts by the technical staff and the Portuguese Football Federation.
Portuguese federation rules allow a suspension of between one and six months when a selected player abandons an international activity without an accepted justification. A professional player can also receive a financial penalty, while an unjustified absence may trigger a preventive suspension before the case is reviewed. The final outcome depends on whether Ronaldo provides a reason considered valid.
The dispute emerged as Portugal prepared for its Nations League meeting with Denmark. Ronaldo’s absence did not prevent the team from winning 4-2 in Copenhagen, with Gonçalo Ramos starting in attack and Vitinha also scoring. The result offered Jorge Jesus a positive response from the squad while the controversy continued outside the pitch.
Jesus described Ronaldo as a major symbol of Portuguese football but said the issue would not be addressed until after the next match against Norway at the Dragão. He also stressed the need to prevent the situation from dividing the group. Ronaldo’s future with the national team remains uncertain while the disciplinary question is examined.
