Djibril Gueye travels to Sporting to complete move
The Leganés defender has reached Portugal for his medical and contract signing after the clubs agreed on his transfer.
Djibril Gueye has travelled to Portugal to complete his move from Leganés to Sporting, with a medical examination and contract signing now expected to formalise the transfer. The agreement between the Spanish and Portuguese clubs ends several weeks of negotiations over the Senegalese defender.
The transfer takes Gueye into Sporting’s development system after his spell with Leganés. He previously played for AS Douanes and has made appearances for Leganés’ first team. His arrival adds another Senegalese defensive prospect to Sporting’s summer recruitment, following the club’s signing of Ibrahima Ba from Famalicão.
Gueye is expected to start with Sporting’s reserve team in Portugal’s second division rather than move directly into the senior squad. That route will give him an opportunity to continue his development in Portuguese football while remaining within the club’s structure.
The medical and signature are the outstanding formalities before the move is completed. Once those steps are finished, Gueye will leave Leganés and begin the next stage of his career in Portugal, with Sporting’s reserve side set to be his initial competitive destination.
