France U21 move within one point of Euro 2027 qualification

France’s under-21 team strengthened its hold on first place in Group C and moved to within one point of securing a place at Euro 2027. The result maintained the side’s advantage over its rivals after seven qualifying matches, while Estonia remained at the bottom of the group. Gérald Baticle’s team can seal qualification in its next fixture against Luxembourg.

France won 2-0 in Estonia, with Steve Ngoura opening the scoring in the 24th minute and Jean-Matteo Bahoya adding the second in the 68th. Bahoya came on in the 12th minute for Ethan Mbappé, who was affected by a problem with his right ankle. Estonia then lost Sander Tovstik to a straight red card in the 28th minute.

The visitors controlled the game and created enough opportunities to have won by a wider margin. France had 77% possession, 36 attempts and 14 shots on target, as well as 21 corners. Estonia did not register an attempt. Ngoura struggled to convert several openings, while Bahoya made a decisive impact after entering the match.

France will host Luxembourg next Saturday with the chance to collect the single point still needed for qualification. The victory also extended the leaders’ successful campaign against a side that has yet to move from last place in the group.
