Hama Hamidou Dicko praised after MADO’s Dori debut

Future editions of the Marathon atypique de Dori (MADO) will receive the backing of Liptako-Soum Governor Abdoul Karim Zongo after the event’s successful first staging. Zongo praised organiser Hama Hamidou Dicko and the organising committee for their persistence, while also commending the runners who took part. The race is now viewed as a regional sporting platform supporting peace, resilience and social cohesion.

The inaugural event brought together 45 runners from Burkina Faso’s defence and security forces and the civilian population. Nine teams of five covered roughly 10 kilometres through Dori in a relay format. The Entente team finished first overall, ahead of Famille in second and Paix in third. Hermann Venegda, representing Entente, was the first competitor across the line.

Entente received gold medals and 55,000 CFA francs. Famille collected silver medals and 45,000 CFA francs, while Paix earned bronze medals and 30,000 CFA francs. The fourth- and fifth-placed teams each received 25,000 CFA francs.

Dicko said the competition was created because the Liptako-Soum sporting calendar lacked an event of this kind, and described its launch as the fulfilment of a long-held ambition. He plans to use the lessons from the opening edition to improve future races. Regional Police Director Namagnan Traoré also pledged continued support from the event’s patrons, with the aim of establishing MADO on the regional sports calendar.
