Harry Kane equals England’s all-time appearance record
The Bayern Munich captain has reached 125 England caps, drawing level with Peter Shilton’s national record.
Harry Kane has moved level with Peter Shilton as England’s most-capped player after making his 125th appearance for the national team. The milestone came in a 3-0 Nations League win over the Czech Republic on Tuesday, placing the Bayern Munich striker alongside the former goalkeeper at the top of England’s appearance list.
Kane started the match and reached the mark at the age of 33. Shilton had held the record since 1990, making Kane’s achievement the latest major landmark in an international career that has also seen him become England’s leading scorer, with 91 goals.
The England captain now has the opportunity to take sole possession of the record in November. Shilton has expressed confidence that Kane will surpass him and could set a total that remains unmatched for many years.
Kane’s latest appearance therefore adds a new record to his status as England’s top scorer. The Czech Republic victory also gave the forward a significant moment in the history of the Three Lions, with the record changing hands—or being shared—for the first time since Shilton established it more than three decades ago.
