Idrissa Sabaly joins Red Star on loan from Strasbourg

The 18-year-old Senegalese midfielder leaves Strasbourg temporarily to seek more regular professional football at Red Star.

Idrissa Sabaly will continue his development at Red Star after joining the club on loan from RC Strasbourg. The move gives the 18-year-old Senegalese midfielder an opportunity to compete for more regular professional playing time, with the agreement lasting through the end of the season.

Sabaly spent the majority of the previous campaign with Strasbourg’s reserve team. He shared that environment with Yaya Diémé, another young Senegalese player at the Alsace club. His progress also brought him into Strasbourg’s senior setup, where he made his first Ligue 1 start against Rennes.

That appearance was Sabaly’s first competitive start for the Strasbourg first team. He played for 57 minutes before making way for Julio Enciso, while Strasbourg eventually lost the match 3-0. The midfielder was later named in the professional squad for two more fixtures but did not leave the bench in either game.

He was an unused substitute when Strasbourg lost 2-0 to Nice in the Coupe de France and again when the team drew 1-1 with Angers in Ligue 1. The loan to Red Star therefore represents a chance to move beyond limited senior involvement in Strasbourg and accumulate competitive minutes at professional level. Sabaly now has the remainder of the season to gain experience and take another step in his progression.
