Jefferson-Wooden and Duplantis stand out in Silesia
Melissa Jefferson-Wooden ended Julien Alfred’s unbeaten season as Armand Duplantis cleared 6.20m in Silesia.
Melissa Jefferson-Wooden ended Julien Alfred’s unbeaten run this season in Silesia, strengthening her position among the leading contenders in the women’s 100 metres. Armand Duplantis also extended his control of the pole vault, although his competition was held outside the Diamond League programme.
Jefferson-Wooden won the sprint in 10.76 seconds, finishing ahead of Olympic champion Alfred in 10.83 and Sha’Carri Richardson in 10.96. The result was Alfred’s first defeat of the season. Duplantis cleared 6.20 metres at his first attempt after Emmanouil Karalis failed at that height. The Swedish vaulter then made one unsuccessful attempt at a higher mark before ending his contest.
The meeting in Chorzow also produced a strong men’s 100m final, with Oblique Seville winning in 9.83 ahead of Kenneth Bednarek and Christian Coleman. Alison dos Santos beat Karsten Warholm in the 400m hurdles, setting a world-leading 46.43, while Morocco’s Soufiane El-Bakkali lost his unbeaten Diamond League run in the 3,000m steeplechase to Ethiopia’s Gemechu Godana. Godana’s 8:02.74 broke the meeting record.
