Lando Norris strengthens McLaren’s title push in Zandvoort

Lando Norris won in Zandvoort to confirm McLaren’s revival and claim successive victories over the summer break.

Lando Norris has underlined McLaren’s return to form with a second straight victory, turning his first win of the season in Hungary into a clear run of momentum. The result also gives the reigning world champion another important success in his bid to challenge championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

Norris won the 12th round of the Formula 1 season at Zandvoort, with Antonelli taking second after leading much of the race. George Russell completed the leading Mercedes result after being instructed not to fight his team-mate in the closing stages. The race was interrupted early by a red flag after Max Verstappen crashed, while a later virtual safety car followed Esteban Ocon’s mechanical retirement.

Antonelli seized control at the restart by passing Norris on the opening corner, but the McLaren driver remained within reach. After the pit-stop phase, Norris quickly recovered the gap and passed the Mercedes before taking the provisional lead from Lewis Hamilton. He then stayed ahead when rivals changed to softer tyres during the late neutralisation.

The victory confirms that McLaren’s improvement was not limited to Hungary. Norris now has successive wins after the summer pause, while Antonelli leaves the Netherlands still carrying the championship-leader status established before the race. Verstappen’s early retirement also removed the home favourite from contention on the final Dutch Grand Prix weekend for the foreseeable future.
