Jorge Jesus gives brief response to Ronaldo communiqué
Jorge Jesus said he would read Cristiano Ronaldo’s communiqué but declined to comment after the player’s accusations.
Jorge Jesus has declined to address Cristiano Ronaldo’s accusations immediately, leaving their dispute without a detailed response from the Portugal coach. Jesus said he would first read the statement before deciding whether to comment.
The coach was approached while returning from Leiria, where he had watched Portugal’s under-21 team. Ronaldo’s lengthy communiqué explained his decision to leave the national-team camp during the Nations League. He accused Jesus of breaking his word by asking him to warm up during the match in Norway without bringing him on. Ronaldo also said he had asked the coach to read an eight-point text containing an apology and lavish praise for the player’s standing.
Jesus had previously described the episode as a misunderstanding and indicated that there was no lasting resentment. He also said Ronaldo could be selected for the next international window, with the choice of returning left to the forward. Portugal completed that break with four wins from four matches and became the first team to reach the Nations League quarter-finals after beating Norway 2-1 in Porto. Ronaldo, meanwhile, rejected retirement talk and said he remained available after serving any suspension, provided he was fit and playing for his club. The immediate reaction from Jesus, however, went no further than confirming that he would read the communiqué.
