Koussy 2026 Mayor’s Cup expands youth support initiatives

Koussy’s 2026 Mayor’s Cup served as more than a football competition, with the municipality using its third edition to support youth groups, widen access to healthcare and promote civic involvement in the Sédhiou region of southern Senegal.

Missira won the tournament after defeating Keur Abib 2-0 in the final. Alongside the competition, each of 22 sports and cultural associations received a kit and a ball. The initiative gave local organisations equipment while strengthening their place in the municipality’s youth programme.

The edition also included an enrolment drive for Senegal’s universal health coverage scheme. About 100 young people, including pupils and talibés, benefited from the operation, which began with people living with disabilities. The programme was presented as an effort to improve healthcare access and social protection for vulnerable residents.

The municipality also completed the enclosure wall around the local stadium, leaving the venue ready to host regional competitions. At the closing ceremony, Mayor Mamadou Diallo praised the organising committee and called on young people to take part in cleaning schools, with the aim of making them more accessible and welcoming.
