Ligue 1: Brest snatch a late 2-2 draw against Toulouse at home
Brest came from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Toulouse, with Ludovic Ajorque’s late header rescuing a point after goals from Russell-Rowe and Tapé.
Brest rescued a 2-2 draw against Toulouse with one of the final attacks of the match, as Ludovic Ajorque headed in an equaliser in the closing seconds. Toulouse had led twice at Stade Brestois, but Brest’s pressure and repeated set-piece deliveries eventually produced a point. The result extended a match that had already shifted between Toulouse control, Brest pressure and a series of dangerous aerial chances.
The match began in an emotional setting for the home side. It was Brest’s first official home fixture since the death of Eric Roy, and Toulouse supporters displayed a banner reading, “Rip Monsieur Eric Roy.” The opening period was closely contested, with both teams competing for possession and Toulouse slowing the game by drawing fouls. Brest tried to press high, but the early exchanges did not produce a clear opening.
Toulouse broke the deadlock after a poor Brest relaunch. Casseres won the ball in the air and found Gboho, who immediately played Russell-Rowe into space. The Canadian forward finished from close range into the top corner to make it 1-0. The goal suited Toulouse’s transition approach, and the visitors looked comfortable when they could attack the spaces left by Brest’s pressure.
Brest gradually created more from the flanks and from dead-ball situations. Del Castillo sent a cross toward Doumbia, whose lobbed header struck the top of the crossbar. Mboup then sent a powerful header against the post from a Chotard free-kick, while Diambou also reached the area before being denied by Restes from a tight angle. Brest dominated stretches of the first half, but Toulouse’s defensive block prevented the home side from turning its territorial advantage into a lead.
The equaliser arrived when Diambou’s effort was redirected by Kamory Doumbia with an airborne backheel. It was Doumbia’s second goal in two matches, according to the match update, and it brought Brest level before half-time. The first period ended 1-1, with the home side having created the more visible pressure but Toulouse still posing a threat whenever it moved forward quickly.
Toulouse started the second half with greater activity and regained the lead through Cédric Tapé. Casseres delivered a precise free-kick, and Tapé attacked the ball at speed before directing a firm downward header beyond the goalkeeper. Brest were again forced to chase the match. Mboup tested Restes at the near post, while Brest continued to search for openings through crosses from Lala, Locko and Chotard.
After Tapé’s goal, Toulouse defended with discipline and stayed compact rather than rushing into challenges. Brest found it difficult to create danger in open play, and several of its attacks ended with clearances or misplaced final passes. Restes punched away a threatening Locko cross, Nicolaisen stopped Doumbia with a timely tackle, and Casseres cleared ahead of another Brest opportunity. Toulouse also came close to increasing its advantage when Jorgensen headed over from a Tapé cross.
Brest’s late pressure finally produced the decisive moment. A Chotard corner reached the crowded Toulouse area, where Tousard headed against the post before Nonge sent the loose ball over. Another corner followed, and Magnetti then supplied Ajorque, who protected the ball with his back to goal before heading into the net for 2-2. The result left Brest with a point after trailing twice and Toulouse with a draw despite twice holding the lead.
The current Ligue 1 2026 database record lists Toulouse in 15th place with no points from one match, one defeat and a 0-2 goal difference. Its recent form sequence is a draw with Rodez, wins against Lyon and Strasbourg, a draw with Monaco and a defeat at Lens. Toulouse’s next listed Ligue 1 fixture is at home to Lille on September 3, 2026. Brest’s late recovery gives the contest an added layer, but the immediate statistical position for Toulouse remains the one recorded in the competition data.
