LOSC secure €65m Fernandez-Pardo sale to Newcastle

LOSC have completed the sale of Belgian forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo to Newcastle in a deal valued at €65m.

LOSC have secured one of the major sales of their summer window after Newcastle completed the signing of Matias Fernandez-Pardo. The transfer gives the Lille club an operation valued at about €65 million, although Newcastle did not disclose the fee in its announcement.

Fernandez-Pardo, a 21-year-old Belgium international, has joined the Premier League club on a long-term contract. He will wear Newcastle’s number 20 shirt and becomes the eighth first-team addition made by the English side during an expensive summer recruitment campaign.

The forward had attracted Newcastle’s attention for several weeks following a successful season in northern France. His ability to operate across the attacking line helped convince the Magpies to complete the move before the summer window closed. He now moves to England with the opportunity to establish himself in the Premier League.

For LOSC, the transfer represents a substantial return on a player who spent only two seasons with the club. It also adds to a profitable window that included Ayyoub Bouaddi’s €100 million move to Manchester City, giving Lille two major outgoing deals.
