Louis Bielle-Biarrey at centre of UBB retention push

Bordeaux-Bègles is treating the retention of Louis Bielle-Biarrey and several other young players as a priority for the club’s future. The winger remains part of the team’s central project, with coach Yannick Bru expressing strong confidence that the squad’s emerging core will stay together.

Bielle-Biarrey is under contract with UBB until 2027, but no extension has yet been completed. The salary cap is currently limiting the club’s room to finalise a new agreement, even though both the player and Bordeaux-Bègles want to continue their relationship. Marko Gazzotti, Nicolas Depoortere and Pierre Bochaton are in a similar contractual position.

Bru considers the four players essential members of the team’s long-term structure. They joined the club at a young age, have developed into important contributors and are viewed internally as future leaders. He also made clear that their departure to another club would be unacceptable, given the investment made in their development by Bordeaux-Bègles and president Laurent Marti.

The coach acknowledged that the players’ pay must reflect their contribution while preserving the squad’s financial balance. Despite the salary-cap difficulty, he remains confident that the club can reach agreements and keep the group together. UBB are the reigning two-time European champions, and the retention effort is aimed at protecting the core of that project.
