LSFP accepts Senegal league delay, seeks explanations

Senegal’s professional league has accepted the season delay to October 17 but wants clarity on the revised calendar.

The Senegalese Professional Football League (LSFP) has accepted the postponement of the 2026-27 Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 season but is seeking explanations from the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) about the revised schedule. The league says the change has implications for clubs and the wider professional football structure, which had already begun preparing for the campaign.

The season was due to start on October 3 but will now open on October 17. The LSFP recognises that national-team commitments may have influenced the decision, while questioning why the delay had to last two weeks. In its view, an October 10 start could have been compatible with the international dates that had been announced.

The league has nevertheless reaffirmed its support for Senegal’s national teams and wished them success in their upcoming commitments. It also stressed the importance of professional clubs, players, coaches and training centres in developing the footballers who contribute to those selections.

The revised date is expected to require changes to sporting, organisational and financial plans involving clubs, partners, broadcasters, media and supporters. The LSFP wants discussions with the FSF to resume quickly so both bodies can assess the consequences and agree on how the new calendar will be implemented.
