Luis Enrique earns Filipe Luis’ highest coaching praise
Monaco coach Filipe Luis has called Luis Enrique the world’s best coach ahead of Friday’s meeting with PSG.
Luis Enrique has received a major endorsement from Filipe Luis, who regards the Paris Saint-Germain coach as the best in the world and among the greatest in football history. The praise came before Monaco’s visit to PSG on Friday, giving the fixture an added focus on the two coaches.
Luis Enrique is the first coach in PSG’s history to lead the club to the Champions League title, and he has since achieved that success for a second time. His record with Barcelona and PSG was central to Filipe Luis’ assessment, particularly his ability to win major honours again after breaking new ground.
The Monaco coach also highlighted Luis Enrique’s influence beyond results. He pointed to the Spaniard’s personality, communication, treatment of his squad and management of a major club. In Filipe Luis’ view, those qualities place Luis Enrique in the company of figures such as Johan Cruyff, Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti, although he also described him more cautiously as a possible top-five coach in history.
Filipe Luis, a newcomer to the Ligue 1 coaching landscape, will face Luis Enrique when Monaco meet the reigning champions at the Parc des Princes at 21:05 on Friday. His comments underline the respect surrounding the PSG coach among his peers.
