Mathieu Burgaudeau leaves TotalEnergies for Burgos
Mathieu Burgaudeau will join Burgos Burpellet BH after eight seasons with TotalEnergies and a career reset in Spain.
Mathieu Burgaudeau will leave TotalEnergies at the end of the season and move to Spain, ending an eight-year spell with the French team. The 27-year-old has agreed to join Burgos Burpellet BH, giving him a new setting as TotalEnergies’ position among the teams licensed for 2027 remains unresolved.
Burgaudeau turned professional with TotalEnergies in 2019 after coming through Vendée U and the CREF in La Roche-sur-Yon. The Noirmoutier rider has made five Tour de France appearances, including a 31st-place overall finish in 2023, when he also took second on two stages. He will now race for a Spanish ProTeam, the sport’s second tier.
The move reunites him with former TotalEnergies teammates Mattéo Vercher and Thomas Bonnet, who are also due to join Burgos Burpellet BH after the season. Burgaudeau has five professional victories, among them a Paris-Nice stage in 2022, a Tour du Limousin-Périgord-Nouvelle-Aquitaine stage in 2024 and the Tour of Istanbul that same year.
His recent search for another victory or a podium finish makes the transfer a chance to revive his progress. Burgos will offer a different environment after his entire professional career in the TotalEnergies colours, while his experience in five Tours gives the Spanish team an established stage-racing rider.
