Nantes remain bottom after Guingamp late equaliser
Nantes earned their first Ligue 2 point but remain last after Guingamp struck in the sixth minute of added time.
Nantes remain rooted to the bottom of Ligue 2 after surrendering a late lead against Guingamp, leaving new coach Grégory Poirier with a frustrating start to his rescue mission. The Canaris had been beaten in each of their first three matches and are still without a victory after four rounds.
Guingamp led twice inside the opening quarter-hour, but Nantes recovered through two Wilitty Younoussa goals before Antoine Joujou put the hosts ahead in the 85th minute. The visitors were handed a final opportunity when Johann Lepenant conceded a penalty in added time. Maxime Dupé saved Edouard Louiserre’s effort, but Donatien Gomis followed up to make it 3-3 in the sixth minute of stoppage time.
The draw gave Nantes their first point of the campaign, although it was not enough to lift them from last place. Dijon are directly above them with two points and have played one match fewer. Nantes began the season with defeats to Red Star, Laval and Rodez, conceding 1-0, 2-1 and 5-2 respectively.
Poirier took charge after Michel Der Zakarian was dismissed following the opening three games. The 44-year-old had spent the previous two seasons leading Red Star, guiding them to fourth place last spring. Nantes will next host Nancy on September 7.
