Rasmus Hojlund pushes Portugal coach after Ronaldo salute
Rasmus Hojlund copied Cristiano Ronaldo’s celebration before pushing Portugal coach Jorge Jesus after Denmark’s 4-2 loss.
Rasmus Hojlund has added a new flashpoint to the dispute surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal coach Jorge Jesus. After celebrating his goal in Ronaldo’s trademark style, the Denmark striker put a hand on Jesus’ chest while greeting the Portuguese coach and pushed him away. Jesus answered with a smile, while Hojlund responded with a stern look. Neither man explained the exchange.
Hojlund, 23, had just helped Denmark level at 2-2 in the 53rd minute, completing a mid-air turn before landing with his arms lowered. The Napoli forward’s celebration prompted a collective “siuuu” from the Parken Stadium, echoing Ronaldo’s familiar routine. Portugal eventually won 4-2 in the Nations League.
The incident came a day after Ronaldo left the Portugal squad, unhappy with his playing time and Jesus’ comments. Questions about the captain dominated the post-match discussion, but Jesus defended his approach and said every player must follow the same rules, even when some have a special status.
Jesus also said his priority was respecting supporters who travel to follow Portugal, adding that he had celebrated previous victories with fans and with Ronaldo at Al-Nassr. He described the connection with supporters as complete and said only winning makes an entrenador’s work secure.
