Raul Asencio fined and banned over drink-driving
The Real Madrid defender was fined €14,400 and lost his licence for eight months after a drink-driving conviction.
Raul Asencio has been convicted of a road-safety offence, adding a legal setback to a summer in which the Real Madrid defender was also linked with a departure before remaining at the Spanish club. The incident took place on 16 August in San Bartolome de Tirajana, in the south-west of Gran Canaria, during a routine traffic check.
A summary hearing found the 23-year-old guilty after he was stopped while driving a Porsche. His alcohol reading was 0.90 milligrams per litre, compared with a legal limit of 0.25 milligrams per litre. The conviction carries a €14,400 fine and an eight-month suspension of his driving licence.
The case comes as Asencio faces another court appearance over a separate investigation stemming from events in the Canary Islands in June 2023. He is being prosecuted alongside three former Real Madrid academy teammates over allegations that sexual images were recorded and distributed without the consent of two young women, one of whom was a minor.
Both women have since withdrawn their complaints. The second complainant ended her legal action in October 2025, following the withdrawal by the first. With neither woman pursuing civil or criminal proceedings, prosecutors are retaining a charge of disclosure of secrets and seeking a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for Asencio. He is due to appear on Thursday, Friday and the following Monday in that case.
