Madrid collected 12 points from five games and sits second, behind Barcelona on the same tally. Rayo remains 15th with four points. The result gives Madrid a substantial boost in the early title race, while Rayo’s slow start continues with only one win-equivalent result total from its opening fixtures.

Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 14th minute and then helped create Madrid’s second, finished by Alvaro Carreras three minutes later. Jude Bellingham added a third in the 35th minute after Vinicius Junior supplied the assist from the left. Rayo reduced the deficit six minutes after the interval through Sergio Camello, who capitalised on a defensive error.

Madrid settled the match in stoppage time when Mbappe scored his second goal. The move began with Yan Diomande, continued through Arda Guler and ended with Mbappe’s finish from the right. Madrid controlled the closing stages to complete a 4-1 win.
