Rémy Descamps opens door to leaving Lyon over role

Rémy Descamps says limited playing time at Lyon is difficult and leaves the door open to a future move.

Rémy Descamps has acknowledged that his reduced role at Olympique Lyonnais is becoming difficult to accept, while indicating that he could consider leaving if an attractive project emerges. The goalkeeper is under contract with Lyon until June 2029 but no longer appears to be treating that commitment as a barrier to a change of direction.

Descamps began the Ligue 1 season in goal against Toulouse on 22 August, when Lyon won 2-0. He also started the Europa League match against Anderlecht on 16 September, which ended in a 2-1 victory. Those are his only competitive appearances since then, with Dominik Greif established ahead of him and Descamps serving as his deputy.

The French goalkeeper said match experience is central to his development and that training alone does not give him the same satisfaction. The long gaps between appearances have left him wanting an opportunity to demonstrate his level over a run of games rather than in isolated matches.

Descamps said he had previously chosen to remain at Lyon because he wanted to continue the strong momentum from the start of the campaign. He now intends to remain positive and take what opportunities are available, but would reflect on a serious proposal elsewhere. For Lyon, his comments underline the uncertainty surrounding the future of a goalkeeper tied to the club for several more seasons but currently behind Greif.
