Senegal-Morocco 2026 CAN final verdict delayed by CAS
Senegal and Morocco must wait until late November 2026 for the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s final ruling.
The status of the Senegal-Morocco 2026 Africa Cup of Nations final will remain unresolved for several more weeks after the Court of Arbitration for Sport said its deliberations are still under way. The tribunal expects to issue its final, legally reasoned decision toward the end of November 2026.
Senegal initially won the final 1-0 after extra time on January 18. That outcome was later challenged by a decision from the CAF appeal body on March 17, which recorded the match as a forfeit against Senegal. The ruling followed the Senegal team’s temporary departure from the field and return to the dressing room after a penalty was awarded to Morocco late in regulation time.
The Senegalese Football Federation appealed that decision at the CAS, seeking to have it overturned. Representatives of both countries appeared before the Swiss tribunal on October 8, and the latest announcement confirms that the arbitrators have not yet reached a published conclusion. The panel chose to produce a full award setting out its legal reasoning rather than issue only a brief outcome. Until that document is released, the final’s definitive status remains pending. The CAS said updates on the case will be issued through its official website and that only those communications should be treated as authoritative.
