Tao Geoghegan Hart joins EF Education-EasyPost for 2027
The 2020 Giro winner will leave Lidl-Trek and begin a new chapter with EF Education-EasyPost in 2027.
Tao Geoghegan Hart will ride for EF Education-EasyPost in 2027, giving the 2020 Giro d’Italia champion a new team after his contract with Lidl-Trek ends. The 31-year-old Briton had reached October without a confirmed destination for the following season, but will now join the American team as its first signing for the campaign ahead.
Geoghegan Hart won the Giro while racing for Ineos Grenadiers, beating Jai Hindley and Wilco Kelderman in an edition held in October because of the Covid-19 pandemic. He moved to Lidl-Trek in 2024 after leaving Ineos, but did not record a victory during his three seasons with the American-German outfit.
His career was disrupted by a hip fracture sustained in a crash at the Giro, several weeks after a strong start to 2023 that included a stage win at the Tour of Valencia and overall success at the Tour of the Alps. EF Education-EasyPost will also lose Richard Carapaz, Kasper Asgreen and Markel Beloki over the winter.
Team founder and chief executive Jonathan Vaughters believes the work Geoghegan Hart has done since the injury can lead to a return to his best level in 2027. The rider said discussions with Vaughters focused on the setbacks he has faced, his recovery and the steps needed to rediscover his previous potential. He also has long-standing connections within the team and recently met several of its younger riders.
