Stade Renard de Melong has lost its captain and a central figure in the club’s history after Thomas Legrand Kuissi died on Thursday, 27 August 2026, following an illness. His death has brought mourning to the Cameroonian football community and ended the career of a defender who had remained closely associated with the club.
Known as “Bâtiment”, Kuissi earned recognition for his committed defending, strength in the air and ability to disrupt opposing attacks. He started with Stade Renard in the regional league, then helped the Melong club reach Elite Two and later Elite One. His most notable achievement with the side came in 2019, when Stade Renard won the Cameroon Cup.
Kuissi subsequently moved to Coton Sport of Garoua and Colombe Sportive du Dja et Lobo before returning to Stade Renard. He resumed his role as captain and continued to hold ambitions for the club before his death. His entire senior progression, from the regional level through Cameroon’s top divisions, was tied in part to the Melong outfit, making his loss particularly significant for Stade Renard.
The Cameroon Football Federation conveyed its condolences to Stade Renard’s president. Canon Yaoundé and Colombe also sent messages of support to the club. Kuissi leaves behind a reputation as one of Stade Renard’s emblematic defenders and a key figure in the club’s 2019 cup success.
