Yassine Jassim leads Strasbourg comeback against Lens

Yassine Jassim scored twice as Strasbourg overturned Lens’ lead to secure their first Ligue 1 win.

Yassine Jassim gave Strasbourg their first Ligue 1 victory of the season by turning a deficit into a 2-1 home win over Lens. The result also delivered a first league success for Portuguese coach Hugo Oliveira, three days after Strasbourg began his tenure with a 4-0 defeat at Marseille.

Lens went ahead through Florian Thauvin’s penalty in the 38th minute. The goal was the French forward’s 100th in the league, adding to his two-goal display against Auxerre and his decisive strike against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions Trophy. Strasbourg’s response came from Jassim, who levelled less than three minutes into the second half with a deflected effort after Sebastian Nanasi supplied the pass.

The 20-year-old Morocco international completed the turnaround in the 85th minute, meeting another Nanasi delivery at the far post. It was Jassim’s first scoring appearance for Strasbourg and his second goal of the match. A Strasbourg header by Jacobo Ortega had earlier been ruled out for offside after a video review. Lens nearly equalised after Jassim’s winner, but Mathieu Udol’s header struck the post, leaving Strasbourg with three points from the second round.
