Zinédine Zidane confirmed as France coach after Deschamps
Zinédine Zidane has taken over France after Didier Deschamps, with his first four-match camp already showing clear changes.
France have confirmed the move from Didier Deschamps to Zinédine Zidane, ending Deschamps’ 12-year spell in charge and opening a new phase for the national team. Zidane’s first four-match gathering has already brought visible changes in selection, positioning and approach.
The clearest difference has come in midfield. Lucas Da Cunha has been used as a passer rather than the more defensive profile associated with Aurélien Tchouaméni, while Rayan Cherki has operated deeper and Eduardo Camavinga has returned to a prominent role. France have held about 65% possession in three successive matches, reflecting the greater emphasis on controlling the ball.
Zidane has also begun refreshing the full-back positions, with Andy Diouf among his main choices, although that decision has yet to produce a definitive verdict. Jérémy Jacquet is the new option in central defence, having established himself at Liverpool after beginning the season with strong momentum.
The attack has been reorganised as well. Kylian Mbappé has started from the left, Michael Olise from the right and Ousmane Dembélé through the middle, where his pressing duties match the role he holds at Paris Saint-Germain. Estéban Lepaul has joined the group, while Désiré Doué’s form could affect future decisions. Zidane’s structure is in place, but his line-up remains open to adjustment.
