Abdoulaye Seck scores as Mané and Diarra assist abroad
Abdoulaye Seck scored in defeat, while Sadio Mané and Habib Diarra provided assists in weekend wins.
Abdoulaye Seck found the net for Al-Faisaly, but his goal did not prevent a defeat. Sadio Mané and Habib Diarra had a more positive impact, supplying assists as Al-Nassr and Sunderland secured victories in Saudi Arabia and England respectively.
Seck, a 34-year-old Senegalese centre-back, scored in Al-Faisaly’s 3-1 loss away to Al-Qadsiah in the Saudi league’s fourth round. Mané set up one of Al-Nassr’s goals in a 2-1 home win over Al-Taawoun, while Diarra provided the decisive pass in Sunderland’s 1-0 victory against Fulham on the second matchday of the English season.
The weekend’s contributions therefore produced contrasting outcomes for the three players: Seck’s attacking effort came in a losing performance, while Mané and Diarra directly helped their teams collect wins. Their involvement stood out during a period when the transfer window was approaching its close, with several Senegalese players linked to moves left out of their teams or unused.
Other Senegalese players also featured prominently. Gana Guèye captained Al-Diriyah to a 3-0 win at Al-Ettifaq, while Kalidou Koulibaly’s Al-Hilal beat Al-Khaleej 5-1. In France, Lamine Camara started Monaco’s 2-0 victory over Marseille, adding to a weekend of mixed results for Senegal’s players abroad.
