Algeria set for Burundi test in AFCON 2027 qualifiers

Algeria begin another step in their post-World Cup reset when they visit Burundi in the opening phase of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The match also gives Brahim Hemdani an opportunity to strengthen his position as the new national-team coach, after criticism following his appointment.

The Fennecs are in a group considered manageable and are expected to pursue a winning start away from home. A victory would provide momentum for the qualification campaign and give Hemdani greater room to continue shaping the team. Any result other than three points would represent a significant disappointment for Algeria at this stage.

Burundi are expected to start with Nahimana in goal behind Mukombozi, Nsabiyumva, Weymans and Akbar. Bigirimana, Mussa and Nduwarugira form the midfield, with Girumugisha, Shabani and Kanakimana leading the attack.

Algeria’s starting lineup features Mastil; Radouani, Belaid, Bensebaini and Hadjam; Zorgane, Chaibi and Maza; Hadj Moussa, Chiakha and Amoura. The qualifier is scheduled for Tuesday at 3pm and will be shown on beIN Sports 2, with streaming available through beIN Connect.
